Final Assignment

Our final assignment was to redesign the same character from THE VERY BEGINNING of class using the knowledge we gained.

It helps that I bothered to ink this one with the pen tool, but ultimately I've become a lot more aware of tangents (and trying to avoid them), (visual) balance, and shape variation - at least those are the main things, I think, that I've taken from this class.

Don't Lift Me Up

Those following my DA probably saw this yesterday.~ I was waiting to upload it here until I had fixed a minor thing based off some nice critique Jon Ponikvar gave to me.

Don't worry, Ralph is and will be OK ! The sketch itself wasn't something that ever did or ever will happen to him, it was just meant to be me venting my emotions the day I drew it . Also, at least you guys now know what these little critters are made out of (they're all essentially stuffed animals brought to life, at least I think).

I've been thinking a lot lately and I think this story- still in the works/being revamped - is probably the one I should start with, then going on to my other ideas.

I've just got to find my courage, wherever I have hidden it, to take those first steps.

Also, Jon totally called me on not having a background AGAIN. Haha. I know, I know. I need to really get used to them! :)

AAAANND finally, as a point of interest, here's the image without the filters I put on it:

okay, I TOTALLY lied.

My friend Alison drew some really adorable doodle chibis for me of our old characters, so we also collabed (I did the coloring):

I inked and colored the drawing she sent me of Taku and Rin dancing :). I think the result is pretty adorable.

I guess she liked it too because she asked me to ink and color some neat owls she drew as well (the barn owl gets to be my owl, her name is Marion).

See they're saying "you got mail" 'cuz they're mailer owls from Harry Potter.
( you can bet your socks I listened to [this song] while coloring)

Also, that project I finished earlier than I expected was actually some (commissioned!!yay) template edits to [those cats I did] (so there can be a set of longhair cats).

the other adult poses were edited during the school year by another talented artist who unfortunately had to drop the project.

The exciting part is there's talk of commissioning me AGAIN to do some templates for some "familiars" (see: smaller animal friends) of these cats. :) I'm very grateful for even the opportunity/idea of it.

okay. ONE more post.

I was cleaning my room and found my backup of my maya finals from winter quarter :). Consider this the sequel to this post.

I'm not a fan of maya and I certainly don't plan to be a maya modeler; however, I see its uses and I'm not above saying I wouldn't use maya to cheat on backgrounds and things (granted, I'm going to try not to).

Well, this is growing into almost like a mock-up of a cover or something (I'll probably clean it up and finish it soon-ish). I've been thinking about Noodle Animals* lately, and I'm thinking maybe it could make for a cool creator-owned online graphic novel or an internet cartoon series. As all of the three main ideas of mine (Noodles, V&V, and Streetlight) are, it's definitely kind of...quirky, at least as I have it in my head. Also, I'm pretty sure there are going to be robots in it.

But I make no promises.

* (Oh yeah, and I am thinking of changing the working title of Noodle Animals to just Noodles.)

Also, it's worth mentioning that two wonderful project opportunities have pretty much just been handed to me for the upcoming year and I really would like to express my gratitude and excitement for them. These projects are the kind of stuff you can mention in a resume. The first one is a project with some really awesome SCADets (I was really honored to be picked for it), and the second one is an ambitious project with my brother and two other talented individuals that should prove to be pretty cool.

Also I fixed this up a bit:

They sort of ended up reminding me of characters you might expect to see in a Nintendo game! In all, I do kind of like how they came out.

Since I think we're doing turn-arounds next week, here's a look back at some stuff I did in High School that I found yesterday:

It's always a treat for me to look back and see how much I've improved!
