Scratchboard is fun and VERY forgiving as a medium...but I'm not that great at it yet :/. My main problem, is I tend to lose where the original sketch is on the scratchboard, and end up winging it.



Thinking of turning Toby into a girl, because I think the character makes more sense as one, and I like the idea of having a leading heroine.

Ralph!

So Ralph is definitely my favorite of the Noodles cast...consequently, he's probably the most developed, too. I think it's just a combination of that he is the oldest character of mine in the group (being 4+ years, I think?) and also that I find I can identify with him in a lot of ways (not enough, I hope, to where it's author self-insertion or whatever, but some of this struggles and mannerisms I think I especially sympathize with).

I have to admit, I'm really loving the characters without their hats. Artistically , I'm trying to study Tom & Jerry episodes/gestures/silhouettes (some of Ralph' poses here, even, were based off of gestures I did of Tom and Jerry), since I have found that show to be an inspiration for what direction I want to take the style of Noodles in. (Other inspirations include but are not limited to: Chowder, Spongebob, and Winnie the Pooh)

Sketch Club again

These will also be counting towards my personal sketchbook which I've been working on- admittedly somewhat lightly- in order to improve my work. I'll be posting it in full when I'm done, though that may be some time from now.

Ultimately, while I was very giddy during sketch club because so many people gave me wonderful compliments, looking at these sketches now I'm a little disappointed in myself. It's a good thing though, my inspiration to improve runs high!

Here's some hatless Noodles from a little while ago. I've been thinking of throwing away their hats because they're really an unneeded sort of thing, I think- at least for the direction the story is going in now. For a while I tried to salvage the hats with a vague idea that in some beliefs [the soul is considered to enter and leave through the crown of the head (these being stuffed animals brought to life).

I think they look a little less top-heavy (and anime) now, anyway.
